We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Regardless of your level of proficiency, our skilled instructors will work with you to develop healthy technique. We’re as excited to teach strong fundamentals to beginners as we are to help experienced cellists further their relationship with the instrument. All students at Melody Academy of Music will master the basics, including holding the cello and bow, generating beautiful tone, shifting, vibrato, and strong intonation.
Melody Academy of Music focus on fundamentals is complemented by our emphasis on music literacy, including music theory, sight reading, and ear training. Students will be able to effortlessly translate this well-rounded education into musical maturity, moving quickly toward their goals while learning how to bring nuance and style to their personal performance.

Henry
Piano, Guitar, Cello
At a naive, young age, I inherited an ancient relic known as a portable CD player, and, in bewitchment by it, set out to become a rockstar and a classical composer. I soon picked up the guitar (classical, acoustic, electric) and piano, and continued falling into the rabbit hole of exploring music daily.
Brandon
Piano, Cello, Guitar, Ukulele & Theory
Brandon Ung received his Bachelor’s (B.A.) degree in Commercial Music at Biola University with an emphasis in guitar. He also studied voice and piano in college, performing in several ensembles including Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Jazz, Pop ensemble and Chapel band.
Ray Lin
Cello, Piano, Guitar, Ukulele, Bass
Ray Lin has studied Cello and Composition at New York University, the Colburn School and New England Conservatory. He has studied with esteemed artists such as Clive Greensmith, Mark Churchill, and David Fulmer. Ray is also an experienced Guitar player with years of gigging and studio recording work in pop, rock, and jazz genres.
Nyana Ross
Violin, Cello, Guitar, Piano
Nyana Ross has played violin since she was 8 years old. She also plays cello, guitar, piano, and many more instruments. She has performed on many stages at music festivals, concerts, and recitals. She has been playing with various orchestras since 2015 and I’ve even played at Nationals with her orchestra in 2018.
Parker Ohara
Piano, Cello, Guitar & Ukulele
Parker, a native of the Bay Area, hails from San Jose with a deep-rooted passion for music. Boasting over a decade of expertise, Parker is a seasoned guitar and piano instructor committed to empowering students with the essential skills for musical excellence.
Eric Johnson
Cello, Guitar
Eric is a passionate and dedicated music teacher with over 25 years of experience and has taught students of all ages from beginners to advanced skill levels. He holds a BA in music from SJSU and has prepared many students for recitals. His teaching style involves effective practice techniques and psychology.
Matthew Insco
Cello, Guitar & Ukulele
Matthew has been teaching guitar and music for 14 years and has been a performing guitarist for over 20 years. He performs a solo set of classical guitar for weddings, private events and parties, as well as with groups performing Bossa Nova/Jazz.

What Ages Do You Teach Cello?
Students can be as young as 4 years old, or younger with the teacher’s approval. Our students love learning the fundamentals, as well as incorporating their favorite songs into their lessons.
