About Elizabeth Garcia

Elizabeth Garcia is a third-year Music Education major at San José State University, where she studies flute under Dr. Ray Furuta.

Before attending SJSU, Elizabeth participated in a wide range of ensembles on multiple instruments, including cello in String Orchestra, saxophone in Jazz Band, and principal flute in Concert Band. She was also a member of the San José State University Honors Wind Ensemble and the Stanislaus County Honor Band.

Elizabeth has long held a passion for music education. In high school, she helped establish the United Sound program, a peer-mentoring initiative that pairs students with and without disabilities in band and orchestra settings. Her dedication and musicianship earned her numerous honors, including the Patrick S. Gilmore Band Award, the Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award, and the Semper Fidelis Award, granted by the United States Marines Youth Foundation. Her accomplishments have led her to perform at both Carnegie Hall in New York and in Hawaii.

At SJSU, Elizabeth has performed in a variety of ensembles, including Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. In addition to her flute studies with Dr. Furuta, she has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Linda Chesis (Manhattan School of Music), Dr. Brian Dunbar (Crane School of Music), and Alexa Still (Oberlin Conservatory).
