Our Approach to Drum Lessons
We fully acknowledge that each aspiring drummer is a unique individual. While it is true that everyone must begin in the same place, where you go from there is completely up to you. The flexible style of our instructors will foster your musical creativity, offering wisdom, and guiding your technique to levels of excellence. While creative expression is strongly encouraged, we incorporate certain features across the board for all our students, especially in the beginning phases of instruction.
Drum Lessons Should Be Fun!
Few things in life are more satisfying than sitting down at a set of drums and playing your heart out. Students will find this unbridled joy in drum lessons at Brill Music Academy, as fun is the centerpiece of our teaching philosophy. We want our students to LOVE that feeling, whether it’s their first or five-hundredth time on the throne (and yes, it’s really called that!).
Whether your interest in the drums is currently an individual pursuit or you’re already part of a band or ensemble, Brill Music Academy’s passionate instructors are ready to help you progress quickly toward your goals while having fun doing it!
We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Students at Brill Music Academy can count on well-rounded instruction, rooted in proper technique. Working with a professional instructor, you will begin to master the fundamentals of drumming: a strong sense of pulse, how to control touch and tone, well-rounded drum vocabulary, ergonomic drum set configuration, good posture, healthy wrist action, four-limb independence, and efficient sticking patterns.
We strive to ensure that all of our drum students have a rich and varied lesson experience and become literate musicians. Students will be immersed in essential elements of music theory including rhythm and notation, and will gain exposure to the rich history of percussion.
We Care About Your Musical Interests & Goals
Our teachers pride themselves on helping you discover new ways of connecting with the instrument while also working on music you know and love. The world of drumming is wide and deep – but through our tailored instruction, we help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
Are you a member of a jazz ensemble? We’ll focus on swinging, dynamics, chart reading, and how to “kick” the band. Is your band hoping to be the next big country/rock/pop act? We’ll focus on playing with power, steady grooving, and bread-and-butter fills. Perhaps you desire to be a virtuosic drummer who can move in and out of all sorts of styles? We’ll help you identify the similarities and differences between them and navigate the precise skills needed for each.

What’s a Good Age to Begin Drum Lessons?
Adults can start anytime! Students as young as five can learn to play but it is usually best if they wait until the age of seven to take drum lessons. Many people call us and say “my child plays pots and pans all the time and he is four years old. We want to get him into drum lessons.” There is a big difference in having fun pounding away on pots, pans or even your desk if you are an adult and having your teacher give you certain patterns and songs to work on over and over until they are correct. Children under five generally don’t have the attention span to take drum lessons. Instead, start them on piano lessons until the age of seven and then switch them to drums if you really want to give them the best chance at success.
Of course, there are exceptions so please contact us if you think your child is ready for drum lessons!
Do I have to own a drum set to take drum lessons?
No. Many students start learning on a rubber practice pad and a pair of sticks. Adults can start at any age! We recommend starting children at the age of five or six on piano for a year or two. Then they have a huge head-start when they transition to Drums at the age of seven and it usually goes very smoothly for them.

I love the personal treatment we receive here. I have never felt like my son is treated as just another student. Fred and the instructors we have worked with are all very friendly and patient. We have been to a couple other music schools and this one is the best!Bryan K. | Parent
My daughter tried cello lessons here. I was very happy. They answer the phone and they are polite and easy to deal with. My daughter is different, so finding the right teacher for her has been challenging.Terry T. | Parent

Great place! Our 12 year old looks forward to his lesson every week. As a parent, I especially appreciate the terrific organization and communication. Such is rare and invaluable with kids’ extracurricular activities and particularly music instructors or centers. Whether it’s scheduling, lesson feedback, payments or recitals, everything is concise, simple and accurate. Further, it’s very reasonable and convenient with plenty of parking! It’s also next to Domino’s Pizza!George A. | Parent

I would like to tell you how impressed I am w/Brill. It’s run very professionally and the teachers are great. I have learned so much studying w/Mark. He sure knows his music and he is very professional. So, all in all, Brill should get an A+. I recommend it highly. Thanks again.Ursula B. | Student
We are so pleased with the progress our daughter has made since joining the Brill Music Academy earlier this year. The Brill Music Academy is a relaxed place where anyone can learn music. They listen to the reasons you are there and want to help you achieve your goals. My daughter was frustrated trying to learn at another music school in town. She hated piano (even though she knew she could love it, and loves music). It became a chore that she felt she would never master. When we came to the Brill Academy I was afraid that my daughter would not do well, that we would argue and it would continue to be a struggle. But I do not have to remind her to practice, she wants to play. She gets excited about her lesson and she loves Liz. They always come out of lessons smiling and laughing and with a positive outlook for next week. I am so glad we found this school and music is once again a fun activity in our house.Stephanie W. | Parent
Kasey has passed his passion and love for music onto my son. I cannot believe I don’t have to ‘tell him’ to practice. 🙂 He is always energized about what he has learned after a guitar lesson!Christine F. | Parent
Just wanted you to know we enjoyed Sarah’s first recital very much. It was great hearing other students as well. Thanks for the great job organizing. I am happy Sarah is enjoying music. Pam has been a great teacher as well. See you soon!Karen P. | Parent
The Brill Music Academy has some of the most experienced music teachers in Las Vegas. When my children first started playing music, they went through teachers at a couple of different schools. While they were learning, it was obvious they weren’t understanding the reasoning behind the music or feeling the music, just the notes. After moving to your academy, I noticed my children immediately became interested in music again and they started progressing at a much faster pace, in spite of having to relearn some of the “basics” they were never taught before. Bravo to the teachers and staff at the Brill Music Academy.Holly D. | Parent
I am so pleased with the instruction my son is receiving from Bernard. He is so patient with him. He tailors the lesson for his age and communicates his progress with me after each lesson. I am so glad we are sending him to Brill Music.Charlene M. | Parent
