Our Approach to Drum Lessons
Our drum instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Whether you’re playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the drums after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
Drum Lessons Should Be Fun!
Few things in life are more satisfying than sitting down at a set of drums and playing your heart out. Students will find this unbridled joy in drum lessons at Rogers School of Music, as fun is the centerpiece of our teaching philosophy. We want our students to LOVE that feeling, whether it’s their first or five-hundredth time on the throne (and yes, it’s really called that!).
Whether your interest in the drums is currently an individual pursuit or you’re already part of a band or ensemble, Rogers School of Music passionate instructors are ready to help you progress quickly toward your goals while having fun doing it!
We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Students at Rogers School of Music can count on well-rounded instruction, rooted in proper technique. Working with a professional instructor, you will begin to master the fundamentals of drumming: a strong sense of pulse, how to control touch and tone, well-rounded drum vocabulary, ergonomic drum set configuration, good posture, healthy wrist action, four-limb independence, and efficient sticking patterns.
We strive to ensure that all of our drum students have a rich and varied lesson experience and become literate musicians. Students will be immersed in essential elements of music theory including rhythm and notation, and will gain exposure to the rich history of percussion.
We Care About Your Musical Interests & Goals
Our teachers pride themselves on helping you discover new ways of connecting with the instrument while also working on music you know and love. The world of drumming is wide and deep – but through our tailored instruction, we help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
Are you a member of a jazz ensemble? We’ll focus on swinging, dynamics, chart reading, and how to “kick” the band. Is your band hoping to be the next big country/rock/pop act? We’ll focus on playing with power, steady grooving, and bread-and-butter fills. Perhaps you desire to be a virtuosic drummer who can move in and out of all sorts of styles? We’ll help you identify the similarities and differences between them and navigate the precise skills needed for each.
At Rogers School of Music, every state-of-the-art drum lesson room is equipped with a drum kit and practice pads for our students. Our instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles of drumming, and challenge every student with technical exercises specifically designed to improve their speed and comfort. Beginning students need only their drumsticks and a notebook, and all that’s needed for practice at home is an inexpensive drum pad. Drummers are encouraged to bring in their favorite drum parts to learn.

After only one voice lesson, I noticed a difference in my singing. The teacher was even more knowledgeable than I expected (and talented, too!). I learned an amazing amount in that one lesson, and am really looking forward to more. I would definitely recommend Rogers School of Music.Michelle P.
Drew is really patient and very encouraging. He really focuses on the positive and not the negative during our sessions. I’ve learned more about music from Drew in the past 6 months then from any other teacher/method I’ve tried in the past 5 years.Todd F.

The customer service and professionalism demonstrated by all of the staff, from the teachers to the front desk personnel makes us feel a world class welcome each time we arrive. The gift of music education is an investment we wouldn’t want to experience anywhere else!Stephanie Louder
I can’t say enough good things about lessons! I could talk all day. He loves it so much. It was one of those things where he plays tuba at school, but they have jazz ensemble and we thought he would love to try bass. It was a big commitment to buy the bass and do the lessons, but it was the best decision we ever made. His confidence is way up! He says “I love it so much.” Winning student of the month gave him even more confidence, and he is so proud of it! We love it– we absolutely love it. He is doing great, and I don’t STOP telling people how great you are and how their kids should come for lessons too.Stacy W
I just can’t tell you how happy I am with my experience at Rogers School of Music. I’ve taken lessons from so many places over the years, and never had it go so smoothly–because the musicians often weren’t so good at the business side of things. Everything is so well planned and laid out, starting with the contracts and schedules. You never have to guess, everything is clear and concise. I always feel welcome here, from the minute I walk in. And I love my teacher! So thanks!”Jan S.
I got signed up and had my first lesson last Wednesday! It went very well. I was nervous going in, but my teacher was very nice to work with, and I was actually comfortable. I look forward to my future lessons, and after the first lesson, I have every confidence that I can actually do this!An adult student
Rogers School of Music is an amazing place! People are friendly, teachers are wonderful, and both my children are very successful with their instruments. Their teachers not only make their lessons fun but sharing their love of music has inspired my children to practice, to be proud of their accomplishments, and share their new musical talents with others!Erin B.
My teacher makes it fun to not just learn rock music, we talk about it and I love that he can pick up a song and work with me right away on it.Bill M.
Mike was a great fit for my child, my son thinks he is “cool” which helps my son be more excited to go to lessons every week.Julene
