Festival History
RPM&A Festival is a celebration of current and former residents of the Rogers Park neighborhood. Rogers Park is known for its ethnic diversity and bohemian artistry. Nestled in between Northwestern University and Loyola University and a destination for new immigrants, this neighborhood has been the home of many amazing artists. These artists have a long reach into Chicago neighborhoods. The festival is designed to feature long standing and former residents that have a draw of patrons from other neighborhoods as well as give a platform to artists and musicians new to the neighborhood. Sum Music LLC(DBA: Flatts & Sharpe) has hosted this festival since 2019. It is the business mission statement to create community through the arts. Our annual festival has been met with much enthusiasm over the last few years. It is our goal to attract more people this year by adding a second day to the fest. The festival is wee but mighty! Unlike other neighborhood festivals in Rogers Park, we are the only festival named for the neighborhood and take pride that our line up features current and former residents. The food, beer and art vendors are also all current or former residents of the neighborhood. Many people think of this festival as the neighborhood homecoming. As Rogers park is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the city we do our very best to have our performers and vendors reflect that same diversity. The festival is located right at the invisible border between Loyola college students and Rogers Park. We pride ourselves in bridging the gap between the two.
There are big changes to the festival in 2022. The most important is the change of name from the Flatts & Sharpe Music & Arts fest to the Rogers Park Music & Art Festival. It was an obvious move to make after watching the neighborhood come together to support art during covid. The other is that we will be making this a 2 day festival starting on Friday evening this year. The festival footprint can accommodate 12 art vendors, 2 food vendors and 11 bands. It is our goal to attract 3000 – 4000 people over the 2 days, doubling the people we counted in previous years when the festival was only 1 day. We are very sensitive that not everyone feels comfortable going to public gatherings as of yet. We also live stream the event on our website.
