Our Approach To Voice Lessons

Why Choose Voice Lessons at Hoffman School of Music?

You may have been told you have a nice singing voice, but do you know how much better and more powerful it could be if you took voice lessons? The professional voice coaches at Hoffman School of Music can show you how to make your voice all it can be.

There is a misconception that your voice is something you are simply born with, and there isn’t much you can do to change it. On the contrary, voice lessons can make a big difference in a singer’s voice. Your voice is an instrument, much like a piano or a guitar, and learning how to develop and use it is a skill.

Our coaches make taking voice lessons fun. We do this by tailoring our lessons to each individual student. We won’t teach you to sing like Bebe Rexha if you really love Maren Morris. By using the music you love to develop your voice, we make learning more natural and more effective.

When a phrase needs more breath support, that is when we address it. When a high note requires different placement, that is when we work on it. The result is a student who understands technique because they have experienced why it matters, in a song they actually care about.

How Voice Lessons Work at Hoffman School of Music?

Lessons run 30, 45, or 60 minutes, are scheduled weekly, and are available for students aged 5 and older. You choose a time slot, and it is yours throughout the year. Hoffman is a year-round school, so there are no gaps in progress over the summer.

Our coaches work tirelessly to inspire their students, and you will quickly see results from your dedication and hard work. Many of our students go on to study music in school and pursue performance professionally, but even the ones who don’t look back on their time at Hoffman School of Music fondly and remember it as a place of welcoming encouragement.

If you have a child who loves to perform, the sooner you get them voice lessons, the better. When they acquire the necessary skills early on, they have more time to build on them, putting them ahead of the pack.

Adults take voice lessons for all sorts of reasons, from having professional aspirations to singing karaoke at local restaurants. Madonna famously took voice lessons after landing the lead role in the movie version of Evita, even though she was already a chart-topping superstar. So if voice lessons helped Madonna, they can definitely help you.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

GET STARTED

Do I need to be able to sing to take voice lessons?

No. Voice lessons are for anyone who wants to develop their voice – from students who consider themselves tone-deaf to experienced singers working on technique. Our coaches are trained to work with all starting points.

Is it too late to start voice lessons as an adult?

No. Adult beginners often make faster early progress than younger students because they understand and can apply feedback immediately. The voice continues to respond to training at any point in adult life.

What styles of singing do you teach?

Whether you want to sing pop, musical theatre, classical, jazz, or contemporary music, we offer lessons to match your passion. Every lesson is customized to your style and skill level.

Do I need to know how to read music?

No. Reading music is not a requirement for voice lessons. At Hoffman, students sing real songs from the beginning. Music reading is introduced when it serves your specific goals.

Do lessons continue year-round or follow a school calendar?

Hoffman is a year-round music school, so your lesson time slot is held throughout the year. The studio is closed on most national holidays and school breaks, and those closures are already built into the flat monthly subscription fee, with no surprises on your bill.

What happens if I need to miss a lesson?

If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, you receive a make-up lesson credit valid for 30 days. Make-up lessons can be scheduled with any teacher at the studio, though your own teacher is recommended for continuity. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice do not qualify for a credit.

What if our family has multiple kids who want lessons?

Families with three or more active subscriptions receive a $10 per month discount on each subscription. Lessons are available for students aged 3 and older, so siblings at different stages can all be enrolled.

Can my child switch instruments if their interests change?

Yes. Students can transfer to a different instrument or a different teacher within Hoffman without any penalty. Transfers are arranged through the studio’s customer care team.

Do you hold recitals?

Yes, we do! The studio encourages bringing as many guests as you like.

Is there a referral program?

Yes. If you refer another family to Hoffman, a $30 credit is applied to your account once they enroll. You can redeem it by calling or emailing the studio with both family names.
