This is a real instrument with its own identity, and that is how we teach it.
We do not teach ukulele as a simplified guitar. We teach it as the instrument it actually is – with its own technique, its own repertoire, and its own sound. Technique sticks when it is learned in the context of a song a student cares about, and students who stick with the ukulele discover how far it can take them.

How Ukulele Lessons Work at Hoffman School of Music?
Lessons run 30, 45, or 60 minutes, are scheduled weekly, and are available for students aged 5 and older. You choose a time slot, and it is yours throughout the year. Hoffman is a year-round school, so there are no gaps in progress over the summer.
At Hoffman School of Music, we have a number of skilled professionals who offer ukulele lessons. You may want to pair your ukulele lessons with voice lessons to boost your performance skills.
Enrollment at Hoffman School of Music is ongoing – you can start anytime. Our talented teachers tailor each lesson to each student, and they move at their own pace. If you’re having trouble with a particular piece, your teacher is there to work one-on-one with you until you get it.

Do I need a ukulele at home?
You need regular access to a ukulele to make consistent progress. A soprano or concert ukulele is the most common starting choice. Your teacher can advise on a specific model that fits your budget at your first lesson.
Is the ukulele easier to learn than the guitar?
It is easier to get your first sounds and chords on a ukulele quickly – fewer strings, lighter gauge, and simpler basic shapes. But accessible to start does not mean limited. Students who push past the basics find a genuinely challenging and rewarding instrument.
What styles of music do you teach?
Whether you want to play pop, folk, Hawaiian, or contemporary ukulele repertoire, we offer lessons to match your goals. Every lesson is customized to your style and skill level.
Do I need to know how to read music?
No. Reading music is not the first step. At Hoffman, students play real songs first. Notation follows naturally once there is a reason to use it.
Do lessons continue year-round or follow a school calendar?
Hoffman is a year-round music school, so your lesson time slot is held throughout the year. The studio is closed on most national holidays and school breaks, and those closures are already built into the flat monthly subscription fee, with no surprises on your bill.
What happens if I need to miss a lesson?
If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, you receive a make-up lesson credit valid for 30 days. Make-up lessons can be scheduled with any teacher at the studio, though your own teacher is recommended for continuity. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice do not qualify for a credit.
What if our family has multiple kids who want lessons?
Families with three or more active subscriptions receive a $10 per month discount on each subscription. Lessons are available for students aged 3 and older, so siblings at different stages can all be enrolled.
Can my child switch instruments if their interests change?
Yes. Students can transfer to a different instrument or a different teacher within Hoffman without any penalty. Transfers are arranged through the studio’s customer care team.
Do you hold recitals?
Yes, we do! The studio encourages bringing as many guests as you like.
Is there a referral program?
Yes. If you refer another family to Hoffman, a $30 credit is applied to your account once they enroll. You can redeem it by calling or emailing the studio with both family names.
