Foxes School of Music has been a staple of the Washington, DC area music community for over 70 years! We started as a music and dance school in 1953, and continue to provide excellent private music lessons to students ages 7+. Our instructors are top-tier musicians and educators who enjoy teaching with a passion.
Music Lessons
Piano
The piano is both approachable for young beginners and richly complex for advanced players, and is perfect for learning to read music and building a strong musical foundation.
Guitar & Ukulele
One of the foundational instruments of contemporary music, our guitar instructors teach across genres and will equip you to play for yourself or as part of a group.
Violin & Viola
Whether you want to learn the classics or contemporary pieces, our instructors will help you master the technique needed to excel at these captivating instruments.
Bass
The low pitch of the bass guitar holds down the groove in almost all styles of music. Learn to play different styles and techniques.
Cello
Cello lessons will help you to develop strong fundamentals and play without tension to create a clear and beautiful sound on this soulful instrument.
Woodwind
Develop a beautiful sound on the saxophone, clarinet, oboe or flute. Study the musical style of your choosing with our highly qualified woodwind instructors.
Brass
Learn how to play the trumpet, cornet, tuba, trombone and more. Private brass lessons are a great supplement to school music programs. Study your favorite genre with your teacher.
Banjo & Mandolin
The resonant twang of the banjo and the sweet, melodious hum of the mandolin bring life and energy to a myriad of music genres, each contributing its own unique vibrancy and texture.
Cello
Whether you want to learn the classics or contemporary pieces, our instructors will help you master the bowing and finger technique needed to excel at this captivating instrument.
Music Lessons in a Nurturing & Family-Friendly Environment
All lessons are private and held with the same instructor on an ongoing, weekly basis during your designated timeslot. In-person lessons take place here in our store studios. There are no set semesters, enrollment is open year-round, and you may terminate at any time with two weeks’ notice. Students are allowed four excused absences per calendar year, which may be made up or credited. Any absences beyond four per year, as well as late cancellations and no-shows, are billed and considered forfeited. The Studio Administrator manages our program, including all scheduling and billing.

Many of our adult students are amazed at how quickly they progress, even without any prior musical background. What matters most isn’t where you’re starting from, it’s that you’re genuinely interested and willing to dedicate even 15-20 minutes a day to practice.
