At Foxes School of Music, we teach a variety of woodwind instruments – including flute, clarinet, and saxophone – each of which plays a critical role in bringing to life the music we know and love.

We Emphasize Healthy Technique
We believe strong fundamentals are key to providing a strong foundation for a musician’s growth. At Foxes School of Music, you’ll learn the key elements of strong woodwind technique including breath support, voicing, embouchure, articulation, finger technique, and posture.
Understanding these necessities will help you maintain control of the tone and quality of your music. Our lessons offer an enriching, well-rounded music education that pairs fundamentals with a strong foundation in music literacy. Zulfugar Baghirov “Mr. Z”
Saxophone, Clarinet
Zulfugar Baghirov (often called Mr. Z by his students) is a jazz saxophone and clarinet performer and an educator with over 20 years of professional experience. He is an adjunct professor of music at Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA) Woodbridge and Alexandria, VA campuses and a music faculty at Montgomery College in Silver Spring, MD.
Jean Arnold
Flute
Ms. Arnold graduated with honors from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and the Flute Performance Certificate. Following study at the Shenandoah University, Jean received a scholarship to attend the Sewanee Summer Music Center at the University of the South, Sewanee Tennessee.
Joe Morton
Saxophone, Clarinet
Joe Morton has been teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe and bassoon at Foxes for over 30 years. He earned a Bachelor’s of Music (magna cum laude) from George Mason University in saxophone performance.

What Is the Minimum Age to Start Woodwind Lessons at Foxes School of Music?
An instrument like a flute, clarinet, or saxophone requires a certain level of physical development and dexterity. Proper lung capacity is needed to produce the right sound and tone. We recommend starting woodwind lessons no earlier than age 7. At this point, students tend to have the necessary physical attributes that allow them to be successful when learning to play the clarinet or saxophone.
Do I Need Any Prior Experience?
At Foxes School of Music, we support students from a variety of musical backgrounds. From your first time through the door to your very last music lesson, you’ll find a community that is dedicated to meeting you where you are and helping you achieve your goals.
