Even More Pop Songs for Kids to Sing

As we kick off our annual Pop Star Camp, I thought it was time to put together a third collection of pop songs for kids to sing. If you’re a kid who loves to sing pop music, or the parent of one, you’ve probably run across the issue of how hard it is to find relatable lyrics for kids in that genre. I’m a firm believer in singing the type of music you’re most passionate about and am not very controlling about what my students want to sing, but sometimes it’s just nice to be able to relate to the lyrics. So here we go!

1. A Million Dreams

This sweet song from the movie The Greatest Showman has been a huge hit with my vocal students, and its lyrics are perfect for kids. It’s all about having big dreams.

2. This is Me

“This is Me,” also from The Greatest Showman, has such a great message. It’s all being proud of who you are instead of feeling like you have to hide.

3. Girl on Fire

At first listen, it might sound like all the references to the girl’s hotness are about her physical attractiveness, but the song is actually using being “hot” or “on fire” the way you’d say that a sports team is on fire. This Alicia Keys song is fun, empowering, and all kinds of challenging.

4. We’ll Be the Stars

Sabrina Carpenter’s “We’ll Be the Stars” is a celebration of youth and optimism. It’s catchy, kind, and very appropriate for kids.

5. Better Together

Hard to think of anything more kid-friendly than a bunch of cartoon characters singing this Dove Cameron song about friendship and teamwork!

6. Thunder

Imagine Dragons has some phenomenal child-appropriate songs that are also very adult-friendly. Their lyrics are creative, and the music is high quality and likely to outlive many popular songs out there.

7. I Lived

“I Lived,” by One Republic, is life-affirming and has a wonderful message for kids and adults alike.

8. Perfect (Clean Version)

To make this Pink song truly kid-appropriate, you’d probably want to change the reference to drinking beer, but the rest of the song is such a wonderful, timeless message that I didn’t want to leave it out.

9. Cool Kids

Which kid doesn’t lament this sometimes? The Echosmith song is about recognizing the pain of not fitting in and, while it may not sound like it based on the chorus, doesn’t come down on the side of revering the cool kids.

10. The Call

This Regina Spektor song from The Chronicles of Narnia movie is a lovely, touching ballad about a moment of change.
