Difference Between Singing Lessons and Voice Lessons: Voice Teacher vs. Vocal Coach
GET STARTEDThere really isn’t a difference between singing lessons and voice lessons. It is simply semantics. Generally, the public is looking for singing lessons, as they want to learn how to sing. Voice teachers call singing lessons voice lessons or vocal lessons. This is because the voice is the instrument. Just as one would call lessons in piano lessons, the piano is the instrument.
At North Fulton School of Music, we provide vocal lessons or singing lessons to all ages of students in all styles of music in the greater Alpharetta, Roswell, and Milton areas.
Now what is the difference between a voice teacher and a vocal coach? Though the two terms are often exchangeable, there is a difference. A voice teacher works on the student’s voice. They work on vocal health and techniques. Voice teachers work on things like range, note accuracy, breath control, head vs chest voice, and countless other techniques vital to the singer. A vocal coach is generally working on improving the student’s song performance. They help strengthen the student’s repertoire and help them with other aspects of performing such as stage presence, showmanship, and how to get the maximum out of their performances. Though both voice teachers and vocal coaches have very similar jobs, a vocal coach is more likely to work with more advanced singers while a voice teacher instructs students of any level.
