How it All Started

Grace Music School began in December 2011 when John and Geri Heaphy and their daughter Grace opened their first school in Fort Salonga, NY. Grace, a gifted teacher from a young age, inspired the family to blend their talents—Grace in music, John in business, and Geri in customer service—into a thriving, student-focused music school. The school quickly grew to 400 students and was uniquely selected by Steinway & Sons to operate inside their showroom, the first and only school to receive this honor in the company’s long history. Now, we’re thrilled to bring that same passion and excellence to Mount Pleasant, SC, with our newest location opening in September 2025.

Private Lessons

We offer private lessons for piano, guitar, and voice lessons. Our private lessons are excellent, 1-on-1 opportunities to learn the finer points of your or your child’s preferred instrument. Not sure which instrument to choose just yet? Let us know so that we can connect you to the perfect instrument and teacher, matching your needs, availability, personality, and more.

What ages do you teach?

We teach students of all ages—from young children just starting their musical journey to teens preparing for auditions, and adults returning to or discovering music for the first time. It’s never too early—or too late—to start learning music!

Do I need to have any prior musical experience?

Not at all. Whether you’re brand new to music or already have some experience, we’ll meet you where you are. Our teachers will guide you every step of the way with encouragement and care.

What kinds of music lessons do you offer?

We offer private lessons in a wide variety of instruments and voice, as well as music theory, composition, and more. From classical and jazz to pop, worship, and contemporary styles, our teachers tailor each lesson to the student’s interests and goals.

How are lessons personalized?

At Grace Music School, no two students are the same. That’s why our teachers take the time in the very first lesson to learn about each student’s goals—whether it’s playing for fun, preparing for a performance, joining a school ensemble, or pursuing music at a higher level.

What will my first lesson be like?

Your first lesson is a warm welcome into the world of music. You’ll talk with your teacher about your interests, goals, and background (if any), and begin working on skills that match your level. It’s the start of a personalized journey designed just for you.

How long are lessons, and how often do they meet?

Lessons are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes, once per week. The ideal length depends on the student’s age, experience, and musical goals. We’re happy to help recommend the best fit.

Are there opportunities to perform?

Yes! Music is meant to be shared, and we can’t wait to provide a variety of performance opportunities throughout the year—including seasonal recitals, community events, and more. Our previous students have even performed in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall.
