The Catoctin School of Music is the best private music studio in Loudoun County! We’ve been tucked away and “doing our thing” in Leesburg for 23+ years.
In 2024 we hosted 20+ recitals with well over 350 performances, plus we prepared and supported over 90 CSM student performances in our local Loudoun Community. We had 30 holiday gigs and events for which we provided student talent and musicians.

About Our School
Voice
The vocal instrument is a complex living system and healthy technique is the key to lifelong enjoyment. Let our instructors guide you on your journey of expression and discovery.
Piano
The piano is both approachable for young beginners and richly complex for advanced players, and is perfect for learning to read music and building a strong musical foundation.
Guitar & Ukulele
One of the foundational instruments of contemporary music, our guitar instructors teach across genres and will equip you to play for yourself or as part of a group.
Drums
The drum kit is an energetic instrument that cultivates precise rhythm and strong music fundamentals. Learn to create fun and complex beats while developing healthy technique.
Violin & Viola
Whether you want to learn the classics or contemporary pieces, our instructors will help you master the bowing and finger technique needed to excel at this captivating instrument.
Cello
Whether you want to learn the classics or contemporary pieces, our instructors will help you master the bowing and finger technique needed to excel at this captivating instrument.
Woodwinds
Whether you are wanting to augment your band studies or learn for fun, clarinet lessons will help you develop a beautiful sound and a strong musical foundation.
Brass
Learn how to play the trumpet, cornet, tuba, trombone and more. Private brass lessons are a great supplement to school music programs.
Bass
The low pitch of the bass guitar holds down the groove in almost all styles of music. Learn to play different styles and techniques.

All of our instructors at CSM have degrees in music education and/or performance. In addition, many have completed their Master’s and Doctorate coursework and have advanced degrees.
CSM has purposefully hired a diverse staff in order to teach almost every music style and interest including classical, country, pop, Suzuki guitar, rock, contemporary Christian, performance techniques, standard notation reading, chord chart and lead sheet reading and writing, songwriting, arranging, theory lessons, recording, jazz improvisation, just to name a few.

We offer private lessons for piano, drums, voice, cello, violin, viola, guitar, ukulele, bass, brass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, French horn, and more.
Ensemble Program
Our ensembles perform everywhere for many events including First Fridays in Downtown Leesburg, Christmas Services at Leesburg Community Church, Oatlands Plantation, Spring Arbor Assisted Living Community, Virginia Village, Leesburg Farmer’s Market and more. If you are interested in joining or forming an ensemble, speak with your CSM teacher directly. Our ensemble participation is free, however there is an audition process for some. Contact us.
Friday Open Mic
We also hold a “Friday Open Mic” which is a performance opportunity for anyone in CSM to come test out a piece or composition and perform it in a small safe space in front of an audience. Additional performance opportunities have included “Christmas Music” gatherings at retirement communities, Leesburg First Friday Performances, busking in downtown Leesburg, Rock Band and Worship Camps and more. We supported an additional 90 live performance opportunities in 2023.
Performance Opportunities
In addition to private one-on-one music lessons, CSM has both a Spring Recital and Fall Recital Season to offer every student two live performance opportunities per year with a large stage, microphones, lights, an amazing grand piano and professional accompanists to enrich each student and our community. Your families and friends are welcome to attend and we also stream this on our CSM Facebook channel so that out of state family members, friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents and all can join in with us!!! In 2023 we held 23 recitals with 350 performances.
