About Jason Schimmel
Guitarist, Pianist and Composer Jason Schimmel is a native of southern California and has been performing and teaching professionally for over 20 years. He holds multiple degrees in classical, jazz, film scoring and electronic music from the University of California Santa Cruz and the University of California Los Angeles. He has performed at many notable music festivals and renowned venues throughout Europe, Mexico, Canada, Scandinavia and the United States including; The North Sea Jazz Festival, Angel City Jazz Festival, Jazz Fest Sarajevo, Rockit Festival, Rothbury Festival, 10,000 Lakes Festival, Lincoln Center and Royce Hall.
Jason has a passion for teaching students of all levels and is able to provide education on music literacy, technique, musicianship, songwriting and theory.
As a composer he has written and recorded music that has been featured on many prominent networks such as; Netflix, NBC, ABC, Comedy Central, Food Network, Fox and National Geographic. As a bandleader, he currently performs with his experimental progressive jazz rock band, Red Fiction. Some of the artists and bands that he has either performed or recorded with include: John Zorn, Amanda Palmer, Hildur Guonadottir, Health, Mike Patton, Secret Chiefs 3, Trey Spruance, Dead Cross, Estradasphere, Louis Cole, Ghostemane, Fred Durst, Touche Amore, Amigo The Devil, Dave Lombardo, JG Thirwell, Neil Hamburger, Wayne Horvitz, Matt Chamberlian, and Eyvind Kang.
