About David Heise
David started on the Viola when he was just 8 years old at the Community School of the Arts at Wheaton College, Wheaton Illinois. From there he has studied with world class teachers including Peter Slowik, President of the American Viola Society and professor of Viola at Oberlin College, and Virginia Baron of Lyric Opera Chicago. In high school David was a member of both the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and Encore Chamber Ensemble.
From there David went full circle and graduated with a Bachelors in Viola Performance from Wheaton College, Wheaton Illinois. He has served as a section leader in several community orchestras including the Wheaton Symphony Orchestra and West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and subbed for professional symphonies including the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra.
David has been teaching privately since the fall of 2000, and engages in a whole-person approach to the instrument which incorporates music theory, sight reading, relaxation techniques, posture training, technical exercises, and ear training in addition to repertoire and scales. His favorite aspect of teaching is the rewarding experience of watching a student grow not only in their skills and technique, but in their passion for music and their instrument.
