About Tammy Zhekova
Temenuga (Tammy) Zhekova was educated at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, Bulgaria where she received her music degree and K-12 music education certification. For the past 20 years, Tammy has served as lead soloist in Chicago’s Bulgarian Orchestra and conductor for the all-female Chicago-based choir The Voices of Little Bulgaria, teaching voice and doing vocal coaching privately all the while.
She has also been working with School District 23 for the past 8 years in various capacities. In addition to being an expert in Bulgarian folk music and general music education, Tammy emphasizes the development of technique foundational for all vocalists, with instruction that is informed by extensive experience with a variety of contemporary vocal styles.
