About Ethan Kohring

Ethan’s collegiate career began at William Rainey Harper College where he received an Associate of Fine Arts – Music emphasis in 2016. During his time at Harper, he studied voice with Professor Susan Lundholm and piano with Dr. Janice Razaq. Ethan had the opportunity to start an a capella group, join multiple honors societies, and was awarded the Harley Chapman Music Scholarship and the Excellence in the Discipline award.

Ethan finished his collegiate experience after graduating from Millikin University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education – Vocal Emphasis. During his time at Millikin, he studied voice with Dr. Amy Fuller, piano with Dr. Silvan Negrutiu, and organ with Dr. Bruce Gibbons.

Ethan also successfully auditioned into the University Choir, the Dissonance a capella group, and the One Voice vocal jazz ensemble. Ethan served on the board of multiple student chapters of music education organizations, joined educational honor societies, and won the Dr. Maria Klott Memorial Award for advancement and achievement in both piano and voice.

Ethan’s first professional music teaching experience was actually at The Music Room back when he was studying in college. He took the knowledge that he gained and brought it to Millikin where he gained more knowledge of voice and piano pedagogy. After college Ethan student taught choir and hip-hop at Glenbard East High School, subbed for choir and band at Oak Park and River Forest High School, and taught general music at Lisle Elementary School.

Currently, Ethan is the Choir Director at Wilmette Junior High School and Highcrest Middle School in Wilmette, IL. There he is teaching a 5th-8th grade choir program and a hip-hop production course. Ethan, a previous student, sales employee, and teacher at TMR, is excited to be back and reach students once again with his enthusiasm and engaging style of teaching!
