About Katie
Ms. Katie is an undergraduate student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, studying instrumental Music Education. Her primary instrument is the B-flat clarinet; however, she has studied piano under Dr. Chan-Kiat Lim throughout her time in college. She has been performing as a clarinet player for almost 10 years. During this time, she has performed as the principal clarinetist for several ensembles and attended the LMEA All-State Honor Band for three years consecutively. In her spare time, she also enjoys playing ukulele and guitar.
An active college student who is involved in many organizations around campus, Katie currently leads as the clarinet section leader for the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band and plays clarinet in UL’s Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. She serves as the vice president for UL’s National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Chapter. Katie is also an active member of her music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota (ΣAI) where she assists as one of the music directors and sits on several committees within the organization.
She has always had a passion for teaching and has instructed other students since her freshman year of high school. She believes that a reflective learning style that focuses on the student is the most beneficial for teaching. If a student can reflect upon their playing abilities and explain how they’d like their performance to sound, they will become a more capable musician. She hopes to ensure that every student feels like they are in a safe environment where they can enjoy making music.
