Lately, the ukulele seems to have mushroomed in popularity. There are ukulele covers of practically every song imaginable, and it’s easy to see why. The uke is easy to learn, ultra-portable, fairly inexpensive, and fun to sing along with. In honor of this fast-growing instrument, here’s a post giving you 5 pop songs for ukulele that you won’t be able to help singing along to.
1. Hey, Soul Sister
This catchy melody by Train only has 4 chords and will have you strumming and singing along in no time!
2. Riptide
Popular the airwaves over, “Riptide,” by Vance Joy is another easy 4-chorder. You don’t need to be a magician’s assistant to make magic with this one.
3. I’m Yours
This feel-good Jason Mraz song was recorded with a guitar, but since has been played on the ukulele many times. Probably the most famous ukulele cover was performed by Sungha Jung, whose playing impressed Jason Mraz so much that Mraz invited Jung to perform with him.
4. You and I
My own personal favorite on this list, Ingrid Michaelson’s “You and I” is hard not to sing along with. Just try to listen to this one without smiling!
5. Somewhere Over the Rainbow
The Israel Kamakawiwo’ole version, not the Judy Garland one, although either one would work fine on a uke… Since this is the quintessential pop ukulele song, I had to include it!
