About Andrew Collins
Andrew has a master’s degree in Viola Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, as well as his Certificate of Advanced Performance Studies and bachelor’s in Music from East Carolina University, where he studied with Ara Gregorian. Andrew has competed in competitions and performed throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
In 2011, Andrew received an Honorable Mention in the MTNA Young Artists Competition. In the spring of 2018, as the violist of the Monroe Quartet, Andrew performed in the Kammermusiksaal at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Germany. He has participated in chamber music concerts with the ECU Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, Monroe String Quartet, been principal violist of the ECU Symphony Orchestra and GSYO, the assistant principal of NC Western Regional Orchestra, a member of the NC Honors Orchestra and Southeastern Orchestra Festival. Andrew has attended the Madeline Island Music Festival, UNCSA Summer Chamber Music Institute, and Music in the Mountains. Andrew’s teachers include Atar Arad, Ara Gregorian, Hye-Jin Kim, Melissa Reardon, Christina Placilla, Gregorio Midero, and Karen Collins. He has performed in masterclasses for Vicki Chiang, Ivo van der Werff, Jonathan Vinocour, Masumi Per Rostad, Maria Lambros, Kirsten Docter, Xiao- Dong Wang, Adam Neiman, Thomas Sauer, Sheila Browne, and the Frye Street, Jupiter, American, Penderecki, Pacifica and Ariana Quartets. Andrew has collaborated with artists Robert McDonald, Xvi Plesser, Raman Ramakrishnan, Xiao-Dong Wang, Wendy Chen, Jorja Fleezanis, Ara Gregorian, Hye-Jin Kim, and Emmanuel Gruber.
