About Ana

Ana Caban started her studies at age 10 during middle school playing recorder flute and singing in the school’s choir. At age 12, she auditioned and was accepted to Escuela Libre de Música in Hato Rey Puerto Rico. During an orchestral instrument presentation concert she became drawn to the profound sounds of the cello and decided that it would become her lifetime instrument.

In 1993 Ana was one of 5 promising cellists that was selected to perform in Melbourne, Florida for a Masterclass taught by Yo-Yo-Ma, who is known to this date as one of the world’s leading cellists. In 1998 after graduating from Florida State University in Liberal Arts Music Performance, she traveled abroad to Madrid, Spain where she continued her advanced studies with Maria de Macedo, an honorary assistant teacher to classical top recording artists like Janos Starker and Pierre Fournier.

In 2008 Ana met electric bass player Jerry Brookings who was a member of Michael Jackson’s band during the 70’s (Jackson 5) and got involved as a strings recruiter and performer. Under Mr. Brooking’s direction, Ana was influenced by motown, jazz and popular music, which she has incorporated in her teaching repertoire.

During her 8 year residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ana also organized chamber music for weddings and other events. She also helped young cello students to develop and appreciate the classical and pop performing arts. In addition to her Bachelors in Music, Ana has earned a Master of Science in Entertainment Business and was awarded the Valedictorian award, graduating top of her class.

She currently performs in the Central Florida Area for GigSalad and is a member of the worship band at The River which is a televised International Ministry hosted by the Christian Television Network.
