Guitar & Bass Lessons Should Be Fun!

We all know the feeling: you hear your favorite song come on and you can’t resist the urge to play along on your air guitar! Here at Schaumburg Music Academy, we can help you convert your musical fantasies into reality – while preserving that irresistible sense of joy you feel when playing along. We want each of our students to LOVE their musical experience with us!

Whether you come to us planning on becoming the next Jimi Hendrix or simply wanting to play songs around the campfire with your friends, our top-notch instructors will help you progress quickly toward your goals while ensuring you have fun along the way.

We Emphasize Healthy Technique

Regardless of your ultimate goals, our teachers will prioritize strong fundamentals including proper posture, hand positioning, chords, fretting, picking, and strumming. As students progress, these basics will become second nature – and serve as the foundation from which students can apply their skills across a variety of genres and styles.

We want our guitar students to be literate, well-rounded musicians. Beginners and seasoned performers alike will find value in our approach at Schaumburg Music Academy, coupling technical instruction with elements of music theory and music history in each lesson.

We Care About Your Musical Interests & Goals

Your unique interests and background will help guide your experience at Schaumburg Music Academy. We teach beginners, intermediate, and advanced students who are interested in a variety of styles – including rock, jazz, classical, pop, blues, and more. Whether you’re inspired by modern day singer-songwriters or the rockers of the 1970s, we can’t wait to get started with you!

Our seasoned instructors will draw upon years of playing, performing, and teaching experience to guide you in improving your skills and exploring the many possibilities of your instrument, and advancing toward your goals at a pace that works for you.

Our Guitar & Bass Teachers

We have several extremely qualified guitar instructors to choose from for people of all ages. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, we will find an instructor that will suit your individual needs. Each lesson is catered to you and your unique style of learning. Our instructors will teach you what you want to learn, whether that’s rock music or folk music, it’s all up to you!
Playing the guitar requires more physical dexterity than some other instruments. Pressing down on strings to create chord patterns, fingerpicking, and plucking the strings takes a certain amount of muscular development and coordination in the hands. For that reason, very small hands won’t be effective at forming many chord patterns. In general, we do not suggest beginning guitar lessons before age five.
At Schaumburg Music Academy, we typically work with guitar and ukulele students aged 5-Adult.  Adult students of all ages and levels are also welcome. You’re never too old to begin! Please contact us to learn more about our guitar and ukulele program. We would be delighted to help you find a good match for yourself or your child among our wonderful faculty.

New to Guitar Lessons? Here’s What to Expect

Schaumburg Music Academy welcomes all music learners, from total beginners to advanced students preparing for university or conservatory study. For those who are new to guitar or bass lessons, we know getting started can seem a little daunting. Here’s what to expect if you’re new to guitar lessons.

What Styles of Music Instruction Are Available?

Schaumburg Music Academy instructors specialize in a variety of styles including rock, pop, folk, classical, blues, R&B, flamenco, and classical, among others. If you are looking for something specific, feel free to get in touch and we can match you with a teacher whose specialty lines up with your areas of interest.

What Books Will I Need?

There are many popular guitar, ukulele, and bass method books in circulation today, and our teachers use a variety of these. Most teachers incorporate a number of different types of resources into their lessons, including method books, guitar tabs, song books, lead sheets, and online resources. In or before a student’s first lesson at Schaumburg Music Academy, your guitar teacher will provide a list of books to purchase.

What Should I Consider When Selecting an Instrument?

There are so many different types of guitars, ukuleles, and bass guitars available to purchase in today’s marketplace that it can be hard to know where to start. Many guitar types are specific to particular musical genres or styles of playing, so it’s important to learn more about them before making a decision on which instrument to purchase. Your guitar instructor will work with you to determine what’s best for starting out. You can get recommendations on what type of instrument to purchase and where to find it at your first lesson.
