What is the minimum age to start online lessons at Rochester Academy of Music?

We offer online music lessons to every student aged four to adult. Our existing students may continue their lessons via Zoom and maintain their current skill level while learning new techniques, styles, and/or instruments. New students may begin lessons and discover the joys of playing music. It’s our pleasure to provide everyone with an engaging experience during online music lessons.

Do I need any prior experience?

Our teachers specialize in teaching students of all levels. Whether you’re new to instruments or voice, are preparing for a professional audition or performance, or have a goal somewhere in between, we welcome you to discover the benefits of taking online lessons.

What styles of music can I learn through online lessons?

Students at Rochester Academy of Music may take piano, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, bass, drums, woodwinds, voice, and singing lessons via our online lessons. Within each type of instrument or voice, you can learn almost any style, from classical and traditional to modern and contemporary. We welcome you to share your interests and goals with your teacher before or during your first lesson. If your interests and goals change, your teacher can adapt lessons to meet your needs. What materials will I need?

Each of our teachers provides customized and personalized lessons to every student based on your skill level, interests, needs, and goals. Before or during your first lesson, your teacher will provide you with a list of books to buy. With these books, you’ll progress in your lessons and work toward achieving your musical goals.

Are online lessons the right fit for me?

You can learn to play an instrument or sing during online and in-person music lessons. The choice is totally up to you and depends on your needs and preferences. During in-person lessons, the teacher can show you the correct posture and finger placement, and offer other tips that help you play your instrument properly and improve your skill. We adjust our teaching technique and provide the same level of instruction during lessons on Zoom.
