We Emphasize Healthy Technique

Singing may look simple enough, but the voice is a complex series of systems that form an expressive and delicate living instrument inside of each of us. Perhaps more than any other musical discipline, having an experienced voice teacher to assist you in training these processes to work together is key to a healthy, lifelong enjoyment of singing.
Rick’s Music World highly-trained instructors will assist you in learning strong fundamentals including proper breathing, diction, resonance, stage presence, and non-verbal expression. We strive to ensure that our voice students become literate musicians, so lessons will also include discussions of music theory, history, and rhythm. Mastering these technical basics will broaden your horizons and allow you to explore many different styles and genres of music in the future!

What Is a Good Age to Start Voice Lessons?

The minimum age we recommend a student start voice lessons is around 7 years old. Many parents want their child to start much younger, but a voice lesson that focuses strictly on technique can be very challenging on younger vocal cords that have not yet developed. We are happy to help you learn more and determine if your child is ready!
Teens and adults are welcome and may also want to include voice lessons with another instrument they are learning.

The #1 Reason to Take Voice Lessons at Rick’s Music World?

Our voice instructors work with each student and parent on a personal level to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s individual needs and favorite type of music.
Whether you’re a singer in a band, a seven-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to singing after many years, our friendly, dedicated teachers will share their love of popular music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
Our private voice teachers primarily focus on popular music and musical theatre songs when you take voice lessons in Rick’s Music World. But if you are looking to be classically trained, we’ll provide that too!

What Styles of Singing Do You Teach?

If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel, theatre, or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you!
Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, preparing for a theatre audition, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. You will discover our voice teachers are fun and patient when you take voice lessons at Rick’s Music World.

How Qualified Are Your Voice Instructors?

Our teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Northeastern University, Johnson & Wales University, New England Conservatory, UMass-Dartmouth, UMass-Amherst, Boston Conservatory and Middlesex College. Most are professional working musicians and have 15- 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.

Do You Provide Singer/Songwriter Lessons?

You can combine vocal training with guitar or piano as an option for your lessons if you are an aspiring singer or songwriter. With voice lessons in Rick’s Music World, we’ve got you covered!

What Happens At the First Lesson?

That is a great question! Our voice teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal learning style and musical goals. At your first lesson, your teacher will ask you about your favorite types of music and help you set goals to achieve whatever musical aspirations you (or your child) have. We do not treat every voice student the same in terms of what and how we teach. A 7-year old having their first lesson will have very different needs than a 57-year old returning to voice lessons after having had lessons as a child. The main reason to choose Rick’s Music World as your lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every voice student is an individual.
