About Brian Herrity
My musical journey began at age 8 when I took piano lessons for a few years. At age 10 I picked up the Trumpet and studied jazz and classical music through high school. Guitar came into the picture when I was 12, and it quickly became the love of my life. At age 14 I formed a punk/alternative rock band and began writing and performing my own music around The Bay Area. Composing music and being on stage brings me so much joy.
I went to Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, CA, music program directed by Greg Brown, under whom I developed an advanced understanding of both music theory and the art of performance. Our band consistently received Unanimous Superior ratings at festivals and competitions, and was known as one of the best high school music programs in The Bay Area.
Today, I continue to enjoy performing, writing, and producing music, as well as coaching students of all ages and skill levels on how to achieve their goals. I’m big on technique and understanding the theory behind songs — what makes them sound good and why? The goal is to make the guitar make sense. I’m lucky to have studied under some incredible musicians and mentors and feel obligated to pass the knowledge I have on to the next generation of players
