About Alex Gavriilidis-Petrin
Described as an ‘impressive violinist with significant audience appeal’ (Palm Beach Arts Paper) and praised for his ‘tonal sweetness and rich tone’ (South Florida Review), Alex Gavriilidis-Petrin has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician worldwide. In the United States orchestral appearances include The Carnegie Hall (Stern, Weill), Alice Tully Hall in New York and Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
Most recently he has been appointed in the first violin section of Santa Cruz Symphony, Symphony San Jose, Fresno Philharmonic and Monterey Symphony. In addition, he regularly freelances with companies such as the San Francisco Ballet, Oakland Symphony and Marin Symphony to name a few. A winner of Miami Summer Music Festival’s Concerto Competition, he has performed as a soloist at the New World Symphony Hall. Mr. Gavriilidis-Petrin is a graduate of MSM, SFCM and USC schools of Music, where he had the privilege of studying with renowned professors Pamela Frank, Midori Goto, Ian Swensen, Sasha Barantschik, Isaac Malkin and Yura Lee to name a few as well as Masterclasses with Leonidas Kavakos, the Takacs Quartet, Chen Zhao and Cho-Liang Lin.
These experiences have shaped him into becoming a passionate advocate of music education. Hailing from a family of piano pedagogues, he has been instructing students of all ages since his early college years. On the East Coast of the United States, he has taught in New York City (Harlem, Brooklyn) and on the West Coast he teaches mainly in the Bay Area.
