About Paul Pinon
Paul was born and raised in El Paso, moved to Austin to pursue a career in music and earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from The University of Texas at Austin. Paul studied performance and composition with fantastic educators Wayne Salzmann II, John Fremgen, John Mills, Tony Edwards, Steven Slawek, Gourisankar Karmakar and Russell Pinkston’s Electronic Music Studio. Paul has tremendous versatility as a musician that plays all of jazz, rock, soul, polka, New Orleans 2nd line, and heavy metal. He studied tabla in the Hindustani style for a year with Gourishankar Karmakar, played in the Tabla ensemble while at UT, and was the drum set player in Karmakar’s Indian Fusion band for a time.
Paul has also performed and/or recorded with Dreamboat, The Irish Exit, Born Again Virgins, Interrobang, Cari Quoy, Scott Zuniga, Curtis McMurtry, Greg Mullen, Rebecca Perl, Jimmy and the Mustangs, Ultraviolet, B.R. Lively, Clint Manning, Northern Quarters, Same Veins, Free Kittens & Bread, Galen James, Lolita Lynn and Magia Negra, Parker Smith & the Bandwidth, and others.
Paul has been teaching privately for a number of years now. “I hope to give my students the skills they need to be a successful musician while playing the music they are inspired from. Whether my students are just picking up an instrument for the first time or are preparing for college auditions and pursuing music as a career, I aim to give them a wide skill set building on fundamentals, technique, in depth listening and analysis, transcription of music, competency in a variety of musical styles, knowledge of important drummers, and confidence in their own playing.”
Today, Paul teaches drum lessons at the Northwest School of Music for quality music lessons by University trained instructors for guitar lessons, piano lessons, voice lessons, drums, violin, ukulele, flute, clarinet, bass in Austin, Cedar Park, Texas.
