Saxophonist Joshua Marshall joins NWMA!

NWMA is proud to announce the addition of saxophonist Joshua Marshall to our faculty. Joshua holds a Masters degree in performance from Mills College and performs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area with a variety of ensembles. His own compositions are infused with heavy doses of improvisation as is his collaborative work with ensembles such as ROVA, Opera Wolf, The Lords of Outland, Andy Weather’s Ensemble and many others.
When discussing his teaching philosophy, he states:
My teaching emphasizes the cultivation of creative energies while ensuring a proper understanding of foundational techniques and essential concepts in music theory. My belief is that it is crucial to strike a balance between training in music as a discipline and the encouragement of individual artistry. Toward this end, I encourage students to draw from diverse sources of inspiration while challenging them to develop their own unique appreciation of music as an art.
