About Rita Brockway
Rita Brockway earned a Bachelor of Music Flute Performance from Duquesne University. At Duquesne, Rita had extensive wind ensemble experience with Dr. Robert Cameron, orchestral with Robin Fountain, and chamber music training. Rita also performed as part of the Washington Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaffer, the National Symphony Orchestra’s summer youth ensemble, the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, the George Washington University Symphony Orchestra (DC), the Fairfax Symphony summer band (VA) and the Morgantown Municipal Band (WV). For more than 10 years, Rita gas performed as the flutist for West Virginia Public Theater’s musicals.
Rita has accompanied many choirs on flute parts and been an active music minister in parishes in all the communities where she lived. Rita trained at the Kennedy Center, with the National Symphony Orchestra’s Education Program and then managed the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony Association (now called American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras (AYPO).
The bulk of Rita’s work prior has been in teaching private lessons (flute, recorder, voice and piano, children’s chorus, and parochial music program (liturgical chorus, recorder, instruments, band) as well as Kindermusik.
