About Hector Parra

Born and raised in Southern California, Hector moved to Colorado at the age of 12. His musical career began as bassist of the high school Jazz band where he also crafted his skills as a drummer. He grew up in the MTV era and was largely influenced by a genre of music known as Nu Metal which combines two genres (specifically rap and rock) and delivers an imaginative soundscape with a high-energy, edgy, in-your-face attitude. He has toured the country as a Nu Metal drummer; opening up for popular national touring acts such as Drowning Pool, Static-X, Black Flag, Otep, Fear Factory, 40 Below Summer, etc.

In the 25+ years that he’s been involved in music and performing arts, Hector has learned that one of the best ways to connect with anyone is through music, regardless of age or skill level. Music is a universal language! He primarily considers himself a drummer, but a more accurate description would be a multi-instrumentalist who prefers guitar and drums. His ability to play multiple instruments allows him to connect with a wide variety of students who are looking to become musicians.

He discovered his passion for music at an early age, but it wasn’t until after high school that he realized he had a proclivity for teaching. It only felt natural to pursue a career that combines the two things he loves. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is seeing that “ah-ha” moment in a student’s eyes when everything starts to make sense to them. Along with helping them learn a new skill, Hector has the ability to build a rapport with his students to better understand how to adapt to their individual learning styles. He enjoys helping others explore their creativity and discover their passion for music.

“We are the music-makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.”
