Woodwind Lessons Should Be Fun!
Woodwind instruments produce rich, expressive, and emotionally impactful music in both solo and group settings. At Needham Music, we teach a variety of woodwind instruments – including flute, clarinet, and saxophone – each of which plays a critical role in bringing to life the music we know and love.

Bob
Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute
Bob D’Ambrosio has been teaching woodwinds for over 30 years. In addition to teaching, he and guitarist Louis Arnold recorded music for clarinet and guitar. They have recieved accolades from Minnesota composer Libby Larsen for their interpretation of her music.
Cameron
Guitar, Saxophone, Clarinet
Cam comes from Fort Collins, CO where he began in music through the school system. He studied clarinet and saxophone, seeking as many playing opportunities as possible. This ranged from concert band, jazz band, orchestra, and the various Colorado all-state ensembles.
Sachiko
Piano, Oboe
Sachiko Murata is an oboist and composer based in Boston. Praised for her “nicely tuned and highly accurate execution” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), Sachiko has distinguished herself as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player.

What Is the Minimum Age to Start Woodwind Lessons at Needham Music?
An instrument like a flute, clarinet, or saxophone requires a certain level of physical development, and dexterity. Proper lung capacity is needed to produce the right sound and tone. We recommend starting woodwind lessons no earlier than age 7. At this point, students tend to have the necessary physical attributes that allow them to be successful when learning to play the clarinet or saxophone. If you’re not sure whether or not private woodwind lessons are right for you, our highly capable instructors can answer your questions and help you find the perfect fit.
