About Rob Chase
Rob was introduced to the world of music performance at the age of 10 with a fortuitous introduction to a trombone, but met his true love two years later upon receiving a second hand electric bass as a Christmas present. He steeped himself in the sounds of funk, soul and rock that he had grown up with and started playing with anyone he could find. As a junior in high school he found an upright bass in a storage closet at his school, setting the stage for the next leg of his musical journey.
Rob studied classical orchestral performance in college at Baldwin-Wallace University, and received a Master’s degree from Youngstown State University in Jazz Composition and Performance. Moving to Austin shortly after grad school, he has made a living playing any and all types of music.
In both performance and composition Rob draws inspiration from the borderlands where one genre starts and another begins. As Duke Ellington once said, “There are two kinds of music – the good kind and the other kind”. Rob has made it his goal to explore, create and study the good kind of music.
