About Kim Pickard
Kim’s first musical memory was realized at the early age of 3 while watching an episode of Mr. Rogers featuring the Pittsburgh Ballet in the early 1970’s. This introduction inspired 12 years of ballet classes at Miss Beverly’s School of Dance where music and movement would forge a lifelong pursuit of music.
Kim is the daughter and granddaughter of a family of musicians who had a devout love of church music. Kim has vivid memories of sitting along side her mother at the organ watching her mother’s feet dance across the foot pedals. Kim grew up singing in church every Sunday of her childhood.
Kim trained classically in Pittsburgh, PA. She studied Vocal Performance at Simpson in Iowa for a while. Eager to continue her stagecraft, Kim made way to Austin, Texas where she worked with Esther’s Traveling Follies and reveled in the 1990’s corporate party scene traveling the states singing her heart out and having the time of her life! Kim also performed with The Time Travelers, a show band, and enjoyed success during the 1990’s.
Kim also recorded voice over for radio, background vocals for recording artists and acting in films.
In 1999, Kim married and by 2003 had 2 wonderful kids which inspired her to provide the same musical foothold her mother had given her. Kim joined the awesome team at FUMC, Boerne, TX as the Director of Children’s Music. Kim thrived as an early childhood music and movement educator and children’s choral director.
In 2012, Kim’s family relocated to Austin. She found a musical home at a local church where she started a Children’s Choir and a Fine Arts Academy. Kim built successful programming for children with creative interests from scratch with her heart and soul. She also continued to teach Early Childhood Music and Movement for local preschools.
Kim has taught private lessons for 19 years. Of all Kim’s musical forays, vocal coaching is by far her first love. She aspires to foster a love of music including all genres of music. Classical, Jazz, Broadway, Pop, Indie, Folk, Rock: no matter the style, vocal techniques for singers are the same.
Teaching at the Musicians Woodshed is like returning to her roots. Sharing with her students what her most impressionable mentors gave her. A strong belief in the power of music and self.
