About Diane Shim

Diane Shim is a second-year Bachelor of Music student in Vocal Performance at The University of Texas at Austin. She is an active performer with the Butler Opera Center, having appeared as the Shepherdess in L’enfant et les sortilèges, the Fourth Spirit in Cendrillon, and Sister Rose in Scene II of Dead Man Walking, in addition to chorus roles in La traviata and Le nozze di Figaro.

Diane brings extensive choral and solo experience to her teaching. She is a multi-year Texas UIL Solo and Ensemble Regional and State Gold Medalist and was named State Outstanding Performer in 2023. She is also a two-time Gold Medalist and Outstanding Performer at the Katy Young Artist Competition and a three-time Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir member. In 2024, she was a finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition.

Diane is passionate about teaching young singers and building healthy, confident vocal technique rooted in musical curiosity and solid fundamentals. Drawing from her own training and performance experience, she strives to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment tailored to each student’s individual goals. She taught private voice lessons during the summer of 2025 and looks forward to continuing to grow as both a performer and educator.
