Violinist & Musicologist

Cristian M. Vega is a violinist and musicologist with extensive experience as both performer and educator. He currently performs with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, where he has served as section violinist, assistant principal, and principal of the second violins. His orchestral engagements include performances with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Valley Symphony Orchestra, and international appearances at festivals in Austria, Italy, Germany, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

As an educator, Cristian has taught across public schools, conservatories, and university-affiliated programmes. He has served as adjunct orchestra teacher at Don Tyson School of Innovation, faculty violin teacher at the Arkansas Music Conservatory, and instructor for the Community Music School at the University of Arkansas, where he taught both private and group lessons to students ranging from young beginners to adults. He has also mentored young musicians through the Chloé Trevor Music Academy Fellowship and previously taught in McAllen Independent School District and the UTRGV Music Academy.

Cristian holds a Bachelor of Music Education with teacher certification from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a double Master of Music in Violin Performance and Musicology from the University of Oklahoma (with highest distinction), and is a PhD candidate in Historical Musicology at the University of Auckland. His academic work explores questions of canon formation, while his artistic and pedagogical goals centre on fostering resilience, creativity, and cultural connection through music.
