About Chris Loyd

Chris is thrilled to be a part of The Musician’s Woodshed after having taught in the Austin Public School System for 10 years and earning a “Master Teacher” designation from the TEA in the process. While he has called Austin home since 2010, he was born and raised in the bustling metropolis of Conroe, Texas, where his love of music overtook him at age 10 when he began playing trumpet for his school band. From there, he studied guitar, drums, piano, fine-tuned his vocal skills through high school, and soon after was bitten by the performance bug. As a touring musician, Chris quickly found himself sharing the stage with the likes of local Austin favorites Cruiserweight, and Grammy Award-Winning bands such as Sugarcult, Yellowcard, and ZZ Top. He is the primary songwriter for his original act, The Festive Years, for which he also sings and plays guitar. He won multiple awards as a vocalist in high school, the accolades from which ultimately culminated in an opportunity for him to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. When he’s not playing music, he enjoys traveling, hiking, doing crosswords, keeping up with his favorite pro and college teams, and hanging out with his wife and pup.
