What is Open Jam & Mic Night?
This type of event is held twice a month at the Woodshed. This is a good place to meet other students, musicians, test your skills, or learn new skills. The Open/Mic nights involve musical ensembles, such as a house band or rhythm section, and includes teachers and other professional performers. You never know who might show up because it is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Do not need to be a student to participate.
What is the difference between Open Jam and Open Mic?
At an Open JAM, usually specific songs from a set list are selected, or one of your choice. Musicians that come to the jam join in playing the song that they wish to participate in. Also, Open Jam can be just that, on the stage playing music without a vocalist. Learning new skills together in a group setting.
At an Open MIC, can be someone wanting to perform a song they have written or a song they have been working on in a lesson. Open Mic is also helpful to gain more stage performance singing. The person can be accompanied by a band, sing solo, or backing track.
What does one need to bring for this event?
The stage is equipped with Sound, Keys & Drums.
Bring your instrument of choice. TIP: Make sure your instrument is tuned.
Prepare a grab bag of tunes.
Consider using a cheat sheet or know your lyrics.
Is there a level of experience needed to participate?
No, you can come to enjoy the music, never picked up an instrument or be a professional. All levels experienced.
