Michael Cano is 23 years old, and was raised in Bellville, Texas. A dedicated percussionist, Michael’s love for rhythm and sound has been a defining part of his life. After serving as a proud Army veteran for four years, he pursued his creative passion, studying Music Production at Full Sail University.
David Kent
Guitar, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Beginner Piano, Songwriting, Recording/Production
David grew up around live music and got his first guitar at age 12. Self-taught, he began by learning to play the blues and folk music, as well as covering bands like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.
Travis Woodard
Drum, Beginner Bass,
Travis Woodard has been a member of the Austin, TX musical and teaching communities for many years. Along with his teaching responsibilities at The Musicians Woodshed, Travis enjoys his career as an in demand professional drummer and band leader.
Keith Galloway

Keith Galloway Jr. is a pianist, drummer, producer, and composer hailing from Fort Worth, TX. Beginning piano at the age of six while playing in church, Keith developed a strong musical foundation that eventually led them to study Jazz Composition at the University of Texas at Austin.

Get StartedWhat Is the Minimum Age to Start Drum Lessons at The Musicians Woodshed?
We welcome students of all skill levels to take drum lessons at The Musicians Woodshed. While we create a positive and inspiring environment for all drum players, the minimum age we recommend a student start percussion lessons is 5 and full drum set lessons are 6. The term drum lessons can be very subjective as playing drums can mean anything from hand drums to a full drum set. Any students younger than 6 should focus on a hand drum or practice pad to learn rhythm and build up coordination.
Physical development is important since drum players must have dexterity, control, and motor skills as they learn rhythms and hold and maneuver the drum sticks. Drum students must also know how to count and have an adequate attention span for lessons and practice sessions.

Do I Need to Own a Drum Set?
You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons. Beginning students can learn with a drum pad, stand and sticks for under $40.00. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.
Do I Need Any Prior Drumming Experience?
Players of all skill levels benefit from drum lessons at The Musicians Woodshed. You do not need any prior experience with drums or percussion.
You may learn faster if you have previous exposure to percussion, understand rhythm, and can read music, but our teachers create customized lessons that allow you to learn foundational skills, develop advanced techniques and discover the joys of drumming.
What Styles of Drumming Can I Learn?
Our drum instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our drum teachers will create a plan designed to improve your speed and comfort.
What Books Will I Need?
Every drum student has different needs and interests, and your instructor will customize a curriculum just for you. You’ll receive a personalized list of books to buy after your first lesson.
