We Emphasize Healthy Technique

In addition to guitar, violin, voice, ukulele, keyboard; Benji also teaches music theory, songwriting, and audio production! He started off on violin at age 10 and then wanted to know more and more from there! This is Benji’s 11th year of teaching music lessons and he claims he teaches with a “research based approach.”

Jonathan Portillo is an Austin-based jazz musician and educator. Hailing from Dallas TX, he graduated with a degree in Jazz Performance from Texas State University in 2022. He performs with several groups across the Austin and San Antonio area

What is the Minimum Age to Start Bass Lessons at The Musicians Woodshed?

Playing the bass requires physical dexterity, muscular development and coordination as you hold the instrument, pluck strings, and create chord patterns. Contact us to find out if your child is ready for bass!

Of course, older students and adults are also welcome to take lessons and gain the confidence, self-discipline, and other benefits that result from playing the bass.

Do I Need Any Prior Experience?

Students of all skill levels may take bass lessons at The Musicians Woodshed. We’re here to support you whether you’ve never picked up a bass before, have played casually for a while or hope to become a professional soon.

Your first few lessons may be easier if you’re familiar with the bass and can read music, but you will receive a solid foundation of knowledge, technique, and understanding that helps you master the bass.

What Styles of Bass Can I Learn?
