About Sam Shepard
Sam is a graduate of Batavia High School and studied music education at Elmhurst College. He spent 6 years as a member of the world class WGI ensemble Cavaliers Indoor Percussion (formerly Green Thunder), and is currently the Battery Coordinator for Crystal Lake Thunder. He taught the drumlines at both his alma mater Batavia High School and Lake Park High School. Sam spent two years in Oakland, California where he was the percussion director at Dublin High School and was the drummer for heavy hitting rock band “Atomic Café”.
While having a strong foundation in drum corps style drumming and drum set, Sam is also an accomplished concert percussionist. He has also been a member of pit orchestras, jazz bands, pep bands, steel drum bands, and percussion ensembles throughout his career.
He focuses on building efficient, healthy drumming technique through relaxation, and exploring new avenues of creativity in contemporary music. Getting better is fun!
Some of his favorite artists include The Beatles, Snarky Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and Haken. His favorite drummer of all time is Vinnie Colaiuta. In his spare time he enjoys discovering new music, watching Star Wars, and drinking more coffee than should be possible.
