About Michael Ross

Michael Ross brings a fun and nurturing environment to piano instruction. Having over 20 years of experience with all ages, he enjoys bringing the joy of music into students’ lives. “I want my students to learn how to play piano and be proud of their accomplishments.” Michael studied with Richard Wilson and Todd Crow at Vassar College where he received his Music degree in Composition and Piano Performance. He won the Jean Slater Edson Prize in Music Composition, and his Senior Recital included Janacek’s In the Mists and Copland’s 4 Piano Blues.

His first teaching experiences were at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Michael worked with children and adults, teaching private piano and music theory. In addition, he co-created and taught the Beginning Kids Group Piano curriculum, still a successful program at Old Town School.

New York City was Michael’s next location. He began teaching Piano Lab classes for kids and adults at Lucy Moses School at Kaufman Center. At the same time Michael ran his own program teaching private lessons around Manhattan, holding two recitals a year for students. Now located in Naperville, Michael brings enriching piano instruction to students at Musical Expressions. During his spare time he likes to walk in the forest preserves, listen to new music, and practice web development.
