About Jake Hartge
Jake Hartge is a dedicated music educator, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist with over a decade of experience working with students of all ages and skill levels. He holds a BFA in Piano Performance and Musical Direction from Columbia College Chicago and brings a warm, adaptable teaching style that emphasizes individual growth, musical confidence, and joy in learning.
Jake’s piano students benefit from his real-world experience as a music director for youth and professional theatre programs across the Chicagoland area. He has directed, accompanied, and conducted dozens of full-scale productions with organizations such as the Children’s Theatre of Western Springs, Julian and Brooks Middle Schools in Oak Park District 97, and the Raue Center for the Arts Youth Program. These experiences have shaped his holistic approach to teaching—one that blends technical precision with creativity, expression, and performance readiness.
In the studio, Jake creates a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to explore their musical identity. Whether he’s introducing a young child to their first notes on the piano or helping a teen master a complex musical theatre score, he adapts each lesson to fit the student’s goals, learning style, and pace. His multi-instrumental background allows him to connect concepts across instruments and genres, helping students develop a strong foundation and versatile musicianship.
Outside of the classroom, Jake is also involved in technical theatre and currently serves as the Head Electrician at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL. His behind-the-scenes experience adds depth to his understanding of live performance and production.
Jake believes that music education should be joyful, inclusive, and rooted in genuine connection. He is committed to helping each student grow not just as a musician, but as a confident and expressive individual.
In his spare time, Jake enjoys hanging out with his extensive array of pets, including 2 dogs, 2 cats, a bird, snake, and saltwater tank, and finding the best donut shops in Chicagoland!
