About Heewon Joy Cha
Heewon Joy Cha seeks accurate interpretation and high-quality music. She has a warm and comfortable style andbelieves that lesson strategies should be different depending on each students’ personality to help maximize their potential and musicality with flexible lesson strategies.
She created a music fairytale through the Dalcroze Eurhythmics classes in South Korea and encouraged her students to develop their music. While in South Korea, Heewon organized a piano ensemble named The Mask (with a unique concept to wear a mask for the piano concert) featuring music ranging from classical and contemporary to jazz and cinematic works. She graduated with Honors from Hansei University in South Korea.
She has an extensive musical repertoire from solo piano pieces to symphonies and opera works. She has won several competitions, including the 2018 NIU Orchestra competition. Heewon graduated with two Masters degrees in Piano Performance & Orchestral Conducting from Northern Illinois University.
Heewon believes in the consistency of lessons to develop your musicianship. She demonstrates constant study and developments that are essential as a musician and teacher. These accomplishments led to her participating as an opera pianist at the Saluzzo Opera Academy in Italy in 2021. She also participated in the International Conducting Masterclass with Maestro Lior Shambadal at Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic, and conducted the Hradec Kralove Orchestra.
Heewon utilizes her various experiences and background knowledge to motivate students to have a creative and diverse perspective on music. In addition, she aims to make students understand and acquire the music with the body and ideas to enjoy the music effectively. She also stresses the importance of good technique to help her students find their greatness.
She loves to cook and share Korean food with her friends and students and also likes to skateboard and snowboard. Her most favorite season is spring, and one of her bucket list goals is to learn how to swim!
