About Carl Hix
Carl Hix has been teaching and training musicians since 1969. He attended Roosevelt University and Northern Illinois University as a double bass major, and was born into an incredibly musical family as 1 of 10 children. Carl’s father John Hix started his own music retail business in 1949 in which he sold instruments and taught lessons on a number of different instruments.
Carl began teaching at his father’s business around the age of 18. Carl has spent the last several decades running a successful “Ma and Pa” shop, Hix Bros. Music, after him and two of his brothers bought their father’s business.
Born and raised in Aurora IL, Carl (and the entire Hix clan) has deep rooted ties to the area and they have a reputation for being a reliable and honest staple of the local music scene. In November of 2021, Hix Bros. Music decided to shut its doors and moved away from being an independent retailer when they joined Musical Expressions in December of 2021.
Carl is excited to continue teaching students, beginners through advanced, and looks forwards to many years of helping students grow and achieve their musical goals.
