Alexander Sun is a resident of the Western Suburbs. He has a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Master of Public Health in Informatics and Health Policy & Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Alex has played piano for over 25 years (and violin for over 8). He has trained under a handful of conservatory graduates in the United States and Taiwan. He focuses on his classical music roots but has found great joy in learning film/game soundtracks, pop songs, and exploring jazz, improvisation, and composition in recent years. Additionally, he has a considerable amount of teaching and performing experience on both piano and violin. Alex has performed all over the world and has been a featured soloist with several orchestras. Alex also won several major piano competitions. His favorite composers are Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt.

Alex believes that teaching is a two-way street. It’s a conversation between the teacher and the student and they can learn from each other. Alex started his teaching career with beginner piano students who lived in the neighborhood and children of friends for several years. He found that he enjoyed having fun teaching and getting to know his students. He believes every student is unique and feels music differently. His main focus is helping his students shine.

Piano and art have always been an important part of Alex’s life. They have helped him learn how to express himself, relieve stress, practice patience and discipline, appreciate the aesthetics of life, and to entertain audiences. He wants to share these precious treasures with others.

Alex has a wide variety of interests which include gardening, reading, public health, deal-hunting, self-improvement, meta-cognition, investing, making Youtube videos and culinary arts. He is a dog lover and currently has a saltwater fish aquarium.
