Piano Lessons in Tucson, AZ
Our Approach to Piano Lessons
Pop, jazz, and classical piano classes are available at Music & Dance Academy. Lessons cover a wide range of materials from baroque to modern composers, as well as methods customized to meet the needs of each student. Natural hand and arm motions, proper piano posture, finger dexterity, and the creation of beautiful tones are all taught to students.
The basics of music theory, rhythm, harmony, sight reading, and notation reading are all covered in the lessons. Advanced students gain comprehensive comprehension of musical theory, as well as technical and interpretive skills and tonal range.
Students can showcase their skills by taking part in several recitals held across Tucson. We teach all ages, including adults. Our Suzuki program is recommended for children aged 3 to 7.

Piano Lessons Should Be Fun!
We know that an interest in piano may be what first brings you to our school – but having fun is what keeps you coming back! Our goal is for every student to LOVE their music lessons as they embark on a rewarding journey of progress and discovery. We put the “fun” in fundamentals!
Our knowledgeable staff blends a high standard of music education with a creative, student-focused approach that gives students space to discover and nurture their passion for music and the piano. Whether it’s your first time at the keys or you’re a seasoned pianist, our teachers are ready to help you progress quickly toward your goals – while having fun along the way.
We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Healthy technique is critical to lifelong enjoyment of the piano. Our first priority is teaching strong fundamentals, including hand, wrist, and arm technique, bench position, and pedaling. We believe that full-body instruction is essential to musicianship and safeguards students from injury.
Once the fundamentals are in place, you and your teacher can craft the story you want your music to tell. Our qualified teachers will assist you in developing musicianship and exploring nuance through dynamics, pausing, phrasing, and varying tempos. Learn with us as we infuse elements of music theory and music history into our well-rounded approach to fostering musical excellence.
We Care About Your Musical Interests
There is no one-size-fits-all method of piano instruction. Regardless of ability or prior experience, our teachers take an individualized approach to each of our students – underpinned by detailed individual assessments, a personalized learning plan, and one-on-one guidance throughout your musical journey.
While fundamentals and technique are essential, our ultimate goal is to equip students to begin exploring their own personal musical style and interests. Your teacher will work with you to understand where you want to go, and craft a unique plan to get you there. Whether your style is classical or pop (or anything in between), we help students excel in their craft while encouraging the occasional step outside their comfort zone to try something new.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get StartedWhat Age Should My Child Start Piano Lessons?
The minimum age we recommend a student start piano lessons is 5 years old. Starting age will largely depend on the student when it comes to piano or keyboard. So, some students may need to wait longer than others to start. Contact us and we can help determine if your child is ready to start!
How Long Does it Take to Learn Piano?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
Our Piano Teachers
Our piano instructors are highly qualified, all have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn’t automatically make you a teacher–that’s why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
We search the entire area for the top teachers, who embody the high values at our school. Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student’s learning style. In addition to their teaching abilities, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent or caregiver on a personal level. We do local, state, and federal background checks on all instructors and we search high and low for the BEST teachers, so you don’t have to!
Do I Have to Know How to Read Music?
No. Beginners are welcome! Our lesson plans aim to educate, engage and inspire students.
Do I Need a Piano to Start Taking Lessons?
It is ideal if you do have a piano at home before starting lessons, but you can start lessons with our piano teachers by using an electric keyboard to practice on. Most of our students rent or buy small electric keyboards practice on at home. We recommend a keyboard that has regular sized keys and a touch sensitive response. A touch sensitive keyboard means if you press a key harder it will play louder and if you press a key softer it will play quieter.
Craigslist is a good resource and you can find a piano for around $200. It can be expensive to pay a piano mover (around $300), but worth it unless you have physically strong people to help, moving straps and a truck! (Which can be done!)
To have the best success, look for the following things in a keyboard:
1. 88 keys
2. Sustain Pedal (when you hold it down, the sound rings out)
3. Touch sensitive keys (when you play harder, it sounds louder; when you play softly, it sounds quieter)
I Don’t Have Any Musical Background Or Ability. Can I Still Help My Child Practice?
Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. We also send lesson notes weekly and sometimes create videos to help in the most effective way possible.
What Will I Learn in Piano Lessons?
Our teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to your individual needs.

Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don’t know where to begin, we can help!
