About Robert Chien
Robert began playing the violin at age six, studying first with Li Lin, then with Wei He and Florin Parvulescu. Growing up in the Bay Area, he performed with groups like BAYMS and Young Chamber Musicians, and took part in numerous summer festivals including the Heifetz Institute. In high school, he was a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, serving as concertmaster and co-concertmaster during the 2018–2019 season.
Robert recently graduated from Northwestern University, where he studied violin performance with Professor Gerardo Ribeiro while also completing a degree in computer science. He performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, winning prizes in the Samuel & Elinor Thaviu Competition in 2020, 2021, and 2022. At Northwestern, he served as concertmaster in both the Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra, and also trained in string pedagogy—teaching young students at the Northwestern Music Academy and deepening his passion for music education.
