About Matthew Estolano
Matthew descends from a musical lineage specializing in piano and stringed instruments. Naturally, at the age of 10, Matthew began learning the piano and guitar, the latter of which Matthew would continue to pursue throughout high school, receiving formal instruction in music theory and genres spanning from blues, folk, to more contemporary rock styles. Matthew would continue to expand their musical skills, joining their high school’s drum line and symphonic band’s percussion section, as well as steel drums ensemble and chamber choir.
While attending UC Berkeley, Matthew became involved in the underground music scene, songwriting and playing guitar for various local bands around the East Bay and San Francisco. After graduating, Matthew became an elementary schoolteacher from 2018-2024, where in collaboration with the school’s music teacher, Matthew helped direct and choreograph Winter and Spring musical programs and recitals, teaching students the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony, and vocal exercises. As a teacher, Matthew’s goals are to guide students towards dedicating themselves to the craft of musical expression, to teach them that sound is everywhere and should be treated as inspiration, and that is through a combination of personal practice and community that allows us to continue and sustain ourselves through art and music.
Outside of music, Matthew writes, records, and tours with their band around the West Coast, reads, and watches a lot of movies.
