About Brian Sheu

Brian has been playing guitar for about 23 years and performing/teaching professionally for about 13 of those years. He attended Musician’s Institute (GIT in LA) in 2009 on the D’addario scholarship, and ended up graduating at the top of the class with the prestige of “Most Outstanding Player”. Moving back to the bay area in 2011, he also completed a BM in Jazz performance at San Jose State University, graduating in 2015.

Since then, he’s had the pleasure of playing music with some incredible bands and musicians, including Grammy award winning 8 Bit-Big Band, Grammy nominated jazz trombonist and faculty at NYU Alan Ferber, NY saxophonist Remy LeBouf, Adam Neely (being featured in his youtube video “The Nintendofication of Jazz”), Patrick Bartley Jr. and many more. He has also opened for funk powerhouse Tower of Power and R&B legendsTony! Toni! Toné!. His versatility and knowledge of musical idioms allows him to teach the nitty gritty details of technique, tone and idiom.

He has also worked as a full time game developer at Ubisoft on the rhythm and music education game Rocksmith 2014, shipping Rocksmith+ in 2023.

Brian is currently a member or co-leader of a number of bands, including the jazz funk super group Huney Knuckles (original music), Super Soul Bros. (video game jazz funk cover group), LeftUniversity, and The iLLiance (a staple of the San Jose nightlife scene).
