About Tim Jones
Tim Jones is a dynamic and accomplished instrumentalist, vocalist, and music educator based in the Chicagoland area. A lifelong musician, Tim began his journey at age 5 with piano, later expanding to trombone, and ultimately finding his voice on guitar, bass, and vocals. A graduate of Elmhurst College with a BFA and an Illinois State Teaching Certification, Tim was also inducted into Lambda Sigma Psi, the national music honor society.
With over 25 years of professional experience, Tim has performed, toured, and recorded with more than 25 bands. His versatility has landed him gigs in rock, blues, country, funk, R&B, jazz, and jamband circles. From playing at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre (Tinley Park), House of Blues (Chicago), Joe’s Live (Rosemont), to intimate jazz clubs, pit orchestras, and juke-joints, Tim brings a well-rounded, real-world perspective to his lessons.
As a teacher, Tim has taught more than 500 students across all skill levels. His teaching philosophy is rooted in encouragement, creativity, and connection. With an energetic and approachable style he calls “edu-tainment,” Tim focuses on fostering student confidence, skill growth, and musical joy. Whether prepping students for performance, studio recording, or just playing for fun, Tim tailors each lesson to individual goals.
In addition to teaching, Tim actively performs with local bands and church ensembles, and has worked as a booking agent, sound tech, and open mic host. His recording credits span studios such as Columbia, Planet 10, and Gretsch.
